WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Colgate 2013 graduate
Mike Garzi has signed a professional contract with the New England Force to continue his soccer career.
Garzi returns to his home state of Connecticut to join the new professional soccer team that is based out of Hartford. The Force will play a series of exhibition games over the course of the next 10 months before applying to join Major League Soccer, the North American Soccer League or the United Soccer League.
The New Milford, Conn., native was a standout midfielder at Colgate. The senior captain saw action in 71 games for the Raiders, notching 16 points , four goals and eight assists throughout his four years. During his junior year, Garzi scored the game-winning diving header in the Patriot League Championship against American on Nov. 13, 2011, to help his team win the title. He was named to the 2011 Patriot League All-Tournament Team as well as the 2012 All-Patriot League Second Team.
“Mike is a very technical and sound player with great skill and intelligence,” said Nate Millette, New England Force general manager. “In addition, Mike is very strong on the ball and smart and he should fit right into the Forces style of play. He is a great addition to the team and we look forward to seeing him in action.”
