Natalie Siedhof singled up the middle, scoring
Haley Fleming for the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth for the 3-2 win over Bucknell Saturday afternoon. The Raiders dropped a 7-0 decision to the Bison in the first game of the doubleheader.
Colgate (8-18, 3-3 PL) was led by Fleming, who went 4-for-6 throughout the two games.
Jennifer Martin had a big day for the Raiders going 3-for-5 with a homerun. Rookie
Mariel Schlaefer added two hits, one run and one RBI.
Bucknell (9-22, 2-4 PL) saw Cassie Greenhawk and Colie Escobar both go 2-for-5 in the games. Escobar earned two runs and two RBI, while Greenhawk tallied two runs and one RBI.
The Bison took the early 1-0 lead after Cydnee Sanders doubled to center field in the top of the first. Her hit scored Greenhawk, who had doubled on the previous at bat.
Martin tied the game at 1-all in the bottom of the second after she homered to right center. Schlaefer then gave the Raiders the one-run edge, at 2-1 in the fourth, when she hit a home run of her own.
Schlaefer gave the Raiders the 2-1 advantage in the fourth when she hit a home run to right field.
Bucknell answered in the top of the fifth, however, equalizing the score when Conover singled to left field. The inning started with Cheyanna Young doubling to right center. The next batter, Escobar, with a sacrifice bunt, advanced Caryn Connors to third, who had come in to pinch run for Young. Conover's hit scored Connors to net the score at 2-2.
After a scoreless seventh inning the contest remained tied, sending the game into extra innings. The Raiders only needed one. Fleming led off with a double to left center.
Emmie Dolfi advanced her to third following a sacrifice bunt. The Bison tallied one more out before Siedhof came up to hit the game winning single. Her RBI scored Fleming for the win.
Winning pitcher
Megan Carnase struck out six batters during her eight innings of work. She allowed eight hits and two runs during her time on the mound.
Dana Nielsen started the game for the Bison going four innings giving up five hits and two runs. Amanda Fazio came in the bottom of the fifth; allowing three hits and one run as the losing pitcher.
In the first game, Escobar homered to center field, lifting Bucknell to the 2-0 advantage. With one out, Kristen Zahn singled up the middle to get a runner on base. The next batter Young reached on a fielder's choice with Colgate tagging Zahn out at second.
The Bison scored five more runs in the top of the seventh to secure the day's first win. Young started out the inning, singling up the middle. Escobar moved her to second after a bunt, and Conover advanced both runners following a sacrifice bunt. Horton earned a walk to load the bases before Greenhawk singled to third base, scoring Young.
The next batter Sanders singled to left center, brining home Escobar and Horton for the 5-0 edge. Following a pitching change, both Greenhawk and Sanders advanced on wild pitches to put them in scoring position. Cox then singled to left field scoring both runners to increase their lead to 7-0.
Colgate could not tally the needed runs in the bottom half of the inning and fell to the Bison in the first game of the doubleheader.
Fazio earned the win going six innings allowing only three hits. Cindy Cherness came in for relief. pitching one inning and giving up two hits.
Courtney O'Connell gave up eight hits and seven runs during her 6.1 innings on the mound. Rookie
Brigit Ieuter came in to finish out the game allowing two hits.
The Raiders are back on the field tomorrow for another doubleheader with the Bison starting at noon at Eaton Street Field.
