MONTREAL — When the men's hockey team at Colgate University hosted its annual awards banquet last weekend, Montreal native
Spiro Goulakos took home quite a haul.
He won three awards — two of them voted on by his teammates — and was picked by his peers to be captain of the Colgate Raiders next season.
Goulakos won an award for best defenceman, a “Coaches Award” and another that recognizes a player who provides inspiration and leadership.
Just a few months ago, Goulakos's season and semester were in doubt. He was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma in January and began chemotherapy in Montreal. But he still managed to return to the ice and the classroom.
