HANOVER, N.H. – The Colgate men's soccer team was on the road for the second time this weekend against an Ivy League opponent and the Raiders were defeated by Dartmouth, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon.
Colgate (1-3-1) had eight total shots with five making it on net and the Raiders had six chances on corners.
Grant Reed got the start in net and made one save and was relieved by
Liam Stapleton late in the game.
The Big Green (2-2-0) saw Alex Adelabu tally the lone goal of the match off an assist by Kevin Dzierzawski. Noah Cohen made five stops in net for the home team, including a pair late in the final half to earn the shutout.
Dartmouth earned the first quality scoring opportunity in the 16th minute as the Big Green tried connecting on a cross inside the box and Robin Alnas was able to get a boot on it, but it went just wide. Colgate had its best chance in the opening 45 minutes come on a corner kick. It looked that the Raiders took the 1-0 lead, but the offsides flag came up and the goal was taken off the board.
The Big Green took the 1-0 lead in the 60th minute with Adelabu tallying his second of the season. Dzeirzawski led Adelabu into the offensive end with a pass from the midfield and Adelabu found the back of the net for the advantage.
Colgate looked for the equalizer around the 10-minute mark with a couple of chances, including a great look from
Shane Conlin, but Cohen was up to the task and made the save to keep the Raiders off the board. Colgate had five shots on goal in the game to only two by the Big Green. The Raiders had six corners, while Dartmouth recorded three opportunities.
Colgate will be back at home this coming weekend as the Raiders host the CU Fall Classic starting on Friday. Colgate will take on Wofford at 7 p.m. on Friday, followed by a Sunday afternoon matchup against Vermont at Van Doren Field.
