HAMILTON, N.Y. (4/7/12) – Junior
Emmie Dolfi hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to help lift the Colgate Softball team past Army 5-4 in the second game of the weekend series. The Raiders won the first game 4-1 at Eaton Street Field.
After trailing 4-1 in the second game, Colgate (11-15, 6-0) responded with one run in the fifth inning and two in the sixth to tie the game, before Dolfi ended the game with a solo homer to right center. Dolfi finished the day hitting 4-for-6 with one home run and three RBI.
Army (21-14, 4-2) scored three runs on four hits in the first inning, before the Raiders responded with one run on an RBI single from Dolfi in the bottom half of the inning to make the score 3-1. The Black Knights then added another run in the top of the third on back-to-back doubles to build a 4-1 lead. But Colgate answered back with an RBI single from junior
Courtney O'Connell in the fifth inning, followed by a two-run homer from
Natalie Siedhof in the sixth inning to tie the game 4-4.
O'Connell pitched seven innings allowing six hits and four earned runs, while striking out three to record her sixth win of the season. She also hit 1-for-3 with one RBI in the game.
In the first game, Army scored one run in the top of the first inning, but that was it as sophomore
Rachel LeCoq would only allow two more base runners the rest of the game while striking out seven to record her third-straight win. Senior
Stephanie Hartquist hit a solo home run to left center to tie the game in the fifth inning, before the Raiders scored three runs on four hits in the sixth inning, including a pair of doubles from O'Connell and
Jennifer Ortega, to grab their sixth League win of the season.
Colgate will be back in action tomorrow on Easter Sunday to conclude the four game series against Army. The first game is scheduled to begin at noon at Eaton Street Field.
