Game 1
Game 2
LEWISBURG, Pa. (4/1/12) – Junior pitcher
Courtney O'Connell recorded her second-straight complete game shutout, while classmate
Emmie Dolfi hit a grand slam on Sunday to help the Colgate softball team complete the weekend sweep of Bucknell. The Raiders won the first game 11-1 in six innings, before shutting out the Bison 5-0 in the nightcap at Becker Field.
O'Connell pitched seven scoreless innings allowing six hits, while striking out one to record her fourth shutout of the season, while Dolfi finished the day hitting 5-for-7 with one home run and seven RBI. Sophomore
Tera Vaughn also extended her hitting streak to eight games, while
Jennifer Ortega hit 3-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored.
In the first game, Colgate (9-14, 4-0) scored one run in the top of the first inning on an RBI single from Ortega, before exploding for seven runs in the fifth inning, including a grand slam from Dolfi, to break open a 1-1 tie. The Raiders would add three more runs in the top of the sixth inning to make the final score 11-1. Colgate scored all seven of its runs in the fifth inning with two outs.
Rachel LeCoq and
Alana Dyson each singled to lead off the inning, before the next two Raiders grounded out. Ortega was then intentionally walked to load the bases for Dolfi, who brought them all home with one swing of the bat to make the score 5-1.
Stephanie Hartquist then kept the two out rally going with a triple to right center, before Natalie Seidhof walked and O'Connell tripled to right center to make the score 7-1.
Jennifer Martin then reached on a throwing error to bring home O'Connell for the seventh run, before Dyson grounded out to first to end the inning.
The first four Raiders reached base to start the sixth inning as
Haley Fleming was hit by a pitch, followed by back-to-back singles from Vaughn and Ortega to make the score 9-1, before a double to right center from Dolfi would score the final two runs.
LeCoq pitched six strong innings for the Raiders allowing three hits, one earned run, while striking out five to record her second-straight win.
In the second game, the Raiders scored one run in the first inning on an RBI single from Ortega, before adding two runs in the third on a fielding error, and that was more then enough for O'Connell, who only allowed seven base runners all weekend. Colgate would add two more insurance runs in the fifth and seventh innings on a pair of RBI singles from Hartquist and Dolfi to make the final 5-0.
After the weekend sweep the Raiders have now won 20 of their last 23 Patriot League regular season games, including eight-straight against Bucknell.
Colgate will be back in action on Wednesday, April 4 for its home opener against Albany. The first game of the twinbill is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. at Eaton Street Field.
