Game 2

LEWISBURG, Pa. (3/31/12)
– Junior Courtney O'Connell pitched a complete game one-hitter as the Colgate softball team completed the sweep on Saturday with a 2-0 win over Bucknell to open Patriot League play. The Raiders won the first game 4-3 at Becker Field.

O'Connell pitched seven scoreless innings, only allowing one base runner, while striking out three to record her fourth win of the season, while sophomore Tera Vaughn extended her hitting streak to six games.

Colgate (7-14, 2-0) scored one run in both the second and third inning to build and early lead, which was more then enough for O'Connell, who recorded her third shutout of the season. The Raiders got their first run on a throwing error that allowed Jennifer Ortega to score from second. Ortega led off the inning with a single past the shortstop, before stealing second to get in scoring position. Sophomore Haley Fleming then made the score 2-0 in the top of the third inning with a solo home run to left field, her first of the season.

In the first game, the Raiders collected three runs in the second inning off two Bucknell throwing errors, before Stephanie Hartquist scored the eventual game-winning run on a wild pitch in the third inning. Hartquist doubled to right center, before advancing to third and then scoring on a pair of wild pitches by Bridget Gates.

Sophomore Rachel LeCoq pitchd seven strong innings for her second-straight complete game allowing two earned runs on five hits, while striking out three.

Bucknell (5-16, 0-2) got seven innings from Gates, who only gave up one earned run, while striking out six.

Colgate will be back in action tomorrow (Sunday, April 1) to conclude the four game series at Bucknell. The first game is scheduled to begin at noon at Becker Field.
