SYRACUSE, N.Y. (3/24/12)
– Senior Stephanie Hartquist cleared the bases in the bottom of the eighth inning to help lift the Colgate Softball team past Canisius 5-4 on Saturday at the Syracuse Softball Stadium.

After Canisius (4-18) scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning to take a 4-2 lead, the Raiders responded with three in the bottom half to steal the win. Senior Jennifer Ortega led of the inning with a double to bring home Tera Vaughn, who was placed on second, to make the score 4-3. Junior Emmie Dolfi then reached on a fielders choice to put runners on the corners before Hartquist hit a fly ball to left field that was dropped by Michelle Del Prince allowing both Ortega and Kate Zucker, who pinch ran for Dolfi, to score the winning runs.

Colgate (5-14) scored first with a pair of runs in the second inning on a two-run homer from Natalie Siedhof and the Raiders would maintain that lead until the Griffins scored one run in the fifth inning and another in the seventh to force extra innings. Siedhof's homer came with one out in the second inning and scored Hartquist, who reached on a fielder's choice.

Junior Courtney O'Connell threw her seventh complete game of the season allowing three earned runs on eight hits, while striking out five. O'Connell also recorded a hit in the game for the Raiders who recorded season-high 10, while Ortega, Vaughn and Eileen Ornousky each recorded two hits.

Colgate returns to action next weekend as it opens Patriot League play at Bucknell with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 31. The first game is schedule to begin at noon at Becker Field.
