Senior Spotlight: Corbin McPherson

Senior Spotlight is a recent addition to the Colgate Athletics website. Each week, we will highlight the experience of a senior athlete from one of the various sports teams as they reflect on their athletic careers at Colgate and what being a Raider means to them.

Corbin McPherson is a senior on the men's ice hockey team. He has played in over 140 games for the Raiders, and has accumulated eight goals and 22 assists in his career thus far. Corbin in from Folsom, CA and is majoring in philosophy. 


Describe your athletic career in one word.
Unforgettable. 

What have you learned from playing hockey at Colgate?
Playing hockey at Colgate has taught me to organize my time efficiently and effectively as well as  how to balance my academic, athletic and social commitments.  

What's the best part of being a student-athlete?
The best part of being a student-athlete at a place like Colgate is having the opportunity to get a world class education while representing the university in a sport I've grown up loving.  

What are your goals for the rest of the season?
The immediate goal is to win the remaining six games of the regular season in the coming weeks. The overall goal is to win our league championship and earn an opportunity to win a national championship. 
 
Who would play you in a movie about your life?
Ryan Reynolds. 

How has playing hockey impacted your four years here?
Playing hockey has impacted all aspects of my four years at Colgate. It has shaped my relationships and helped mold me into a better person. 
 
What's your favorite memory from playing hockey at Colgate?
Winning the Omaha Mutual Stampede Tournament in Omaha, Nebraska in October. Hopefully more tournament championships are in store for this year's team. 
 
What is one food that you would never be able to live without? 
Oatmeal. 
 
What advice would you give to incoming freshmen athletes?
Utilize the resources Colgate makes available to all students and student-athletes in particular. 

What would you like the rest of the student body to know about being a student-athlete?
We are students first and athletes second. We take academics very seriously because most of us will be going pro in something other than athletics. 

If you weren't playing hockey , what sport would you be playing?
Volleyball.
