Lafayette moves to 8-7-4 on the season and will face host American in the PL Championship game on Sunday. The Leopards saw their lone goal from Golini who scored in the 26th minute to put them up 1-0. Goalkeeper Nathan McDonald made three saves in the game.
The Leopards grabbed the eventual game winner midway through the first half. Golini, who was selected to the Patriot League First Team, recovered the ball at the top corner of Colgate's 18-yard box. He shot the loose ball low to the far-side panel of the net and before Stapleton could fall on it the ball rolled in.
Colgate tried to equalize on a corner kick with less than 20 seconds left in the half.
Barrett Metzger played the ball into the box, where it bounced around before finding the foot of
Nick Arpey. His strike on net sailed just wide, but gave the Raiders a great scoring chance.
Early into the second half, Reidy started a Raiders attack. He shot the ball from the left side of the box beating the goalie, but the ball went wide of the far post. The Raiders kept the pressure on as Schilling made a move past a Lafayette defender and played a great cross over to Reidy, who was waiting on the backside of the box. Before Reidy was able to get a touch on it McDonald came flying out of the goal to make the save.
Senior captain
Wade Martin sparked another scoring chance after he dribbled through the Leopards midfield. He played the ball off to Schilling who one-timed it back to him as he continued his run. Lafayette was able to double-team the ball just as Martin was getting ready to shoot.
A few minutes later Schilling played another brilliant ball over to Reidy. He volleyed it out of the air on target but McDonald was able to push it out for a corner.
The Raiders were unable to grab the tying goal after 90 minutes of play. Colgate led in the shots category 13-9 and also earned three corner kicks throughout the game but was unable to capitalize.
