BOSTON, Mass. (1/22/12) - The Colgate University women's indoor track and field team opened its 2012 Indoor season at Boston University on Thursday, before visiting Harvard on Saturday. The Raiders finished fifth overall on Thursday as senior
Chelsea Burns ran strong in the 1,000-meter run and the mile, before winning the 3,000-meter run at Harvard on Saturday.
Burns finished fourth in the mile and fifth in the 1,000-meter run with times of 4:57.08 and 3:00.63, respectively, before setting an new school record in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:52.06. Burns record setting time also ranks first in the Patriot League this season and was an ECAC qualifying mark.
In the sprinting events freshman
Alicia Minella finished fourth the 60- and fifth in the 200-meter dash at BU with times of 7.94 and 25.81, respectively. Minella's time in the 200-meter ranks third overall in the Patriot League this season. Sophomore
Jamie King-Prunty also had a good showing in the 500-meter dash at Harvard where she finished fourth overall with a time of 1:16.56, while
Amy Sleeper and
Cailey Fiesel finished second and third overall in the same event at BU with times of 1:20.93 and 1:22.08, respectively.
The Raiders will return home on Jan. 28th, hosting the Class of '32 Invitational at Sanford Field House. The events are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
