HAMILTON, N.Y. (5/13/11) – Colgate freshman
Rachel LeCoq recorded her fifth shutout of the season as the Raiders beat No. 4 Army 6-0 Friday night to advance to the championship round of the Patriot League Tournament. Colgate lost the first game of the day 9-0 to No. 2 Lehigh at Eaton Street Field.
In the nightcap LeCoq pitched her 17th complete game of the season by going seven innings allowing five hits with no earned runs while striking out five.
Colgate (27-20, 16-3) scored two runs in the top of the first and then added one in both the third and fourth innings, before scoring a couple of insurance runs in the seventh to move on to the championship round for the second-straight season.
Alana Dyson scored the first run of the game as she reached home on an illegal pitch by Haley Pypes.
Tera Vaughn also advanced to third on the pitch and then scored the second run of the game as
Stephanie Hartquist singled to left field. Vaughn crossed the plate again in the third inning off a throwing error by the shortstop, while Hartquist scored in the fourth inning off a wild pitch.
The Raiders added two more runs in the seventh inning off a single by
Emmie Dolfi and a fielders choice groundball by
Haley Fleming to make the final score 6-0.
Colgate dropped the first game of the day to Lehigh in five innings. LeCoq started the game for the Raiders pitching two innings allowing four runs on five hits before
Courtney O'Connell came on in relief. The Mountain Hawks were led by Rebecca Bliss in the circle who gave up two hits in five innings of service for the win while Jen Colquhoun went 2-for-2 with one home run and five RBI.
Colgate will face No. 2 Lehigh again tomorrow in the championship round at noon, with a second if-necessary game at 2:30 p.m. The Raiders need to win both games tomorrow to claim their fourth league title and first since 2007. Saturday's action will be broadcast live on

GAME NOTES: Rachel LeCoq set a new single season strikeout record in school history with 163, the previous mark was 156 set by Kelsey Nordstrom in 2007 … LeCoq is also the third pitcher in school history to record 18 or more wins in a season … Interim head coach Ashley Obrest also set a new Colgate record for most wins in a first season with 27 … Colgate has won seven-straight games against Army including a 3-1 win in the first day of the PL Tournament last season … Colgate has advanced to the Patriot League Championship Round for the second-straight season.
