HAMILTON, N.Y. (4/30/11) – Colgate pitcher
Rachel LeCoq threw eight scoreless innings to pick up a win and a save as the Raiders swept Lafayette on Saturday. Colgate won the first game 1-0, before topping the Leopards 4-3 in the nightcap at Eaton Street Field. In the first game, LeCoq pitched a gem only giving up one hit while striking out 11 to grab her 15th win and fourth shutout of the season. The only run of the game came in the bottom of the first when Nicole Siedhof singled to right field to score
Alana Dyson from third. Siedhof finished the game 3-for-3 at the plate, while four other Raiders each collected a hit. Lafayette's Melissa Robinson pitched six solid innings in the loss giving up one run on seven hits.
In the nightcap, Colgate (24-18, 15-2) scored a run in the bottom of the sixth off back-to-back doubles by
Jennifer Martin and
Haley Fleming to break a 3-3 tie and then turned the game over to LeCoq who struck-out the side in the top of the seventh for her second save of the season.
The Raiders scored one run in both the bottom of the third and the fourth to build a 2-0 lead. But the Leopards answered back with two runs in the top of the fifth to tie game 2-2. Colgate then regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth off a sacrifice fly by
Natalie Siedhof. But the lead didn't last long as Lafayette tied the game with a two out single by Stacey Dorn.
Courtney O'Connell pitched the first six innings giving up seven hits and three earned runs to claim her ninth win of the season, while LeCoq came on in relief for the save.
The Raiders will be back in action tomorrow (Sunday, May 1) to conclude the four game series with Lafayette. The first game is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. at Eaton Street Field and will be “Senior Day”.
