Rachel LeCoq threw nine scoreless innings to pick up one win and a save as the Raiders swept Holy Cross on Sunday. Colgate won the first game 2-0, before topping the Crusaders 2-1 in the nightcap at Freshman Field. With the two wins the Raiders improved to 12-1 in league play and clinched a berth into the Patriot League Tournament.
In the first game, LeCoq pitched a gem only giving up two hits while striking out three to record her third shutout of the season, while Kali Haas threw a complete game five-hitter for Holy Cross. The game was scoreless for the first six innings of action until Colgate pieced together two runs off two hits and one error in the top of the seventh to win the first game.
Natalie Siedhof drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly to right field, while
Emmie Dolfi brought home the second with a single to centerfield.
In the nightcap, Holy Cross (15-22, 8-6) scored a run in the bottom of the first off a sacrifice fly from Gwen Reimer and held a 1-0 lead until the Raiders answered with two runs in the top of the third. Colgate scored both of its runs off a passed ball and a wild pitch to take a 2-1 lead. The Raiders had the bases loaded with two outs before each runner advanced off a passed ball and a wild pitch to score two runs, both the passed ball and wild pitch came during Nicole Siedhof's at bat.
Courtney O'Connell pitched the first five innings giving up two hits and one earned run to claim her eighth win of the season, while LeCoq came on in relief and threw to perfect innings with one strikeout to record the first save of her career.
Colgate (21-17, 12-1) will be back in action on Monday, April 25 to conclude the four game series at Holy Cross. The first game is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. at Freshman Field.
GAME NOTES: Rachel LeCoq has the fourth best single season strikeout total in school history with 122 (freshman record was 79) … LeCoq is also the sixth pitcher in school history to record 13 or more wins in a season …
Tera Vaughn has 31 RBI on the season and needs three more to tie the Colgate freshman record ...
