Game Two

HAMILTON, N.Y. (4/17/11)
– Sophomore Natalie Siedhof hit her first career grand slam and freshman Tera Vaughn drove in five runs to help the Raiders sweep Lehigh on Sunday at Eaton Street Field. Colgate won the first game 13-7, before topping the Mountain Hawks 8-5 in the nightcap to reclaim first-place in the Patriot League.

In the first game, Colgate (19-15, 10-1) exploded for eight runs in the fourth inning off Siedhof's grand slam and a three-run single to left center by Vaughn to build an 8-2 lead. The Mountain Hawks battled back with two runs in the bottom of the fourth and added three more in the fifth to make the score 8-7. But Colgate responded with five runs in the top of the seventh off six hits and one Lehigh error to win 13-7.

Colgate recorded 14 hits in the victory as Vaughn went 3-for-5 with three RBI, while four other Raiders recorded two hits including Siedhof who finished 2-for-4 with five RBI.

Sophomore Courtney O'Connell pitched five innings with five strikeouts for the win, while junior Michelle Hollebeke held the Mountain Hawks hitless for the final two innings with three strikeouts.

In the nightcap, the Raiders scored four runs in the fourth inning off a pair of two-run homers to build a 7-4 lead and never looked back. Jennifer Ortega led off the inning with a double to right center and was brought home by a two-run blast from Vaughn. Nicole Siedhof then singled and was followed by a two-run shot from Emmie Dolfi to give the Raiders a three run lead.

Lehigh (22-17, 8-3) answered back with a solo homer from Jennifer Colquhoun in the fifth inning to make the score 7-5. But after a 15-minute rain delay Colgate added an insurance run in the seventh to complete the sweep and reclaim first place in the Patriot League.

Freshman Rachel LeCoq pitched the first four innings giving up five hits and five earned runs, while Hollebeke came on in relief to hold Lehigh hitless for the second straight game. Hollebeke threw three hitless innings with two strikeouts to claim her second save of the day.

Colgate out hit Lehigh 16-5 in the second game as three Raiders recorded three hits apiece. Nicole Siedhof finished 3-for-4 with two RBI, while Natalie Siedhof went 3-for-3 and Ortega finished 3-for-5.

Colgate will be back in action on Wednesday, April 20 when it travels to Cornell for a double-header against the Big Red. The first game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. at Niemand Robinson Field.
