Game One
Game Two
VESTAL, N.Y. (4/14/11) – Senior catcher Nicole Siedhof hit her eighth home run of the season but it wasn't enough as Colgate dropped a pair of games to Binghamton on Thursday. The Bearcats took the first game 5-3 at East Gym Field and completed the sweep with a 4-3 win in the nightcap.
In the first game, Colgate (17-14, 8-0) tried to battled back from a five-run deficit with one run in the sixth inning a and two more in the seventh, but it wasn't enough as the Raiders dropped the first game 5-3. Colgate out hit the Bearcats 11-to-7 but stranded 11 runners on base, including six in the final two innings.
After
Jennifer Martin crossed the plate to score the Raiders first run in the sixth inning Colgate still had the bases loaded with one, but couldn't capitalize. Binghamton's Demi Laney came on in relief and was able to sit down the next two hitters in order.
Colgate loaded the bases again in the seventh with two outs, but the rally came up short as
Tera Vaughn grounded out to the shortstop to end the game. The Raiders did manage to score two runs in the inning as
Natalie Siedhof hit a two-run blast to right center.
Rachel LeCoq pitched three innings in the loss giving up four hits and two earned runs while striking out three. LeCoq became just the fourth Raider to amass more than 100 strikeouts in a season and the first since Kelsey Nordstrom recorded 156 in 2007.
Michelle Hollebeke threw the final three innings giving up three hits, three earned runs with one strikeout.
In the nightcap, Binghamton (15-11) scored all four of its runs off a grand slam by Deannie Plemon with two-outs in the third inning. The Raiders scored a run in the first and another in third off a solo shot from Siedhof to build a 2-0 lead until Plemon cleared the bases. Siedhof's homer was the 17th of her career and 81st RBI, both rank sixth all-time at Colgate. Colgate out hit the Bearcats 9-to-5 but stranded nine runners on base.
Courtney O'Connell pitched six innings in the loss allowing five hits and four earned runs while striking out two.
Colgate will be back in action this weekend as it hosts Lehigh for a four game set. The first game is scheduled to begin on Saturday at 12 p.m. at Eaton Street Field.
