FORT MYERS, Fla. (3/6/11) – Despite taking an early lead, the Colgate softball team stranded nine runners on base as it fell to Dartmouth, 7-5, on the final day of the Stevens Industries FGCU Tournament on Sunday afternoon.
After giving up two runs in the top of the second inning the Raiders responded with four in the bottom half to take a 4-2 lead. Sophomore
Alana Dyson capped the inning with a two out triple to right center that drove in two runs. The triple was Dyson's fifth of her career which ranks 13th all-time at Colgate.
Dartmouth (2-3) then responded with four runs in the third inning and another in the fourth to take a 7-4 lead. Only three of the seven runs given up in the first four innings were earned as the Big Green took advantage of three Colgate errors.
Sophomore
Courtney O'Connell started the game for the Raiders giving up 10 hits and three earned runs in four innings of service, while freshman
Rachel LeCoq pitched the final three scoreless innings for Colgate only allowing one hit. LeCoq also drove in a run in the fifth inning to make the final score 7-5. Over the weekend LeCoq finished 2-0 in the circle with a 0.41 ERA, while tying the for the team lead with three runs batted in.
Colgate (2-3) is back in action next weekend at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla. The Raiders will play Wagner (11:00 a.m.) and Sacred Heart (1:00 p.m.) on Saturday, March 12.
