The Colgate University softball team will begin Patriot League play this weekend when it travels to Army for a pair of double-headers. Both days are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at the Army Softball Complex.
Colgate (8-11) was originally scheduled for three games at the Delaware State Tournament over the weekend but played only two, dropping a 1-0 decision to Albany and a 4-2 loss to the host Hornets on Saturday.
Courtney O'Connell was the hard-luck loser in Saturday's first game, allowing one unearned run on one hit while walking five and striking out four.
Rachel LeCoq allowed four runs, all earned, on eight hits with two walks and six strikeouts in the loss to Delaware State.
Haley Fleming went 2-for-3 at the plate and batted in both of Colgate's runs

SERIES WITH ARMY
Colgate has faced Army 91 times and holds a slight lead in the all-time series 46-45. The two teams faced each other five times last season including the first round of the Patriot League Tournament. Army won three out of the four regular season games before Colgate upset the top seeded Black knights, 3-1, in the tournament.
SCOUTING ARMY
The Black Knights (14-10) enter Patriot League play splitting a double-header on Wednesday against Fairleigh Dickinson. Army lost the first game (10-4) before bouncing back in the nightcap with a 3-1 win. The Black Knights are led by April Ortenzo who is hitting .329 with one homerun and 23 RBI, while Alex Reynolds has two homeruns and 25 RBI. In the circle Shawna Bleyl is 7-4 with a 2.28 ERA, while Haley Pypes is 6-4 with a 3.03 ERA. As a team Army ranks second in the Patriot League in pitching and fielding and third in hitting.
