DOVER, Del. (3/26/11) – The Colgate Softball team dropped both games Saturday at the Sean Savage Memorial Tournament hosted by Delaware State. The Raiders lost the first game to Albany 1-0, before falling to the host 4-2.
In the first game,
Courtney O'Connell only allowed one hit in her seven innings of service, but the Great Danes were able to take advantage of two Colgate errors to score thier only run. In the third inning Albany's Diane MacDowell reached on a fielding error and was advanced to second after Andrianna Walraven grounded out to third. MacDowell then stole third and advanced home on a throwing error to score the games only run.
In game two, Colgate (8-11) scored two runs in the first inning off a single by
Haley Fleming down the right field line that brought home
Alana Dyson from third and
Jennifer Ortega from second. Delaware State (14-8) would answer back with two runs in the bottom half of the inning plus another in the second followed by an insurance run in the fourth inning to give the Raiders their second loss of the tournament.
Rachel LeCoq pitched six innings giving up eight hits and four runs, while striking out six in the loss.
Colgate was scheduled to face Morgan State on Sunday followed by the consolation game of the Sean Savage Memorial Tournament, but both games have been cancelled due to inclement weather conditions.
The Raiders will be back in action next weekend when they open Patriot League play with a couple of double-headers at Army. The first game is scheduled to begin a 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 2 at the Army Softball Complex.
