– Junior shortstop Jennifer Ortega hit a grand slam and freshman outfielder Tera Vaughn drove in three more runs as the Colgate Softball team split two more games Friday at the Rebel Spring Games. The Raiders topped Green Bay 4-2 in eight innings, before falling to Youngstown State 6-5 in the second game.

In the first game, Colgate (6-9) was led by Vaughn who drove in three runs to give the Raiders their third extra inning win of the season, and snapped Green Bay's seven game winning streak. Senior Michelle Hollebeke started in the circle for Colgate pitching 6.1 innings with three hits and one earned run, before Courtney O'Connell came in relief to pickup her first win of the season.

The Raiders scored first in the third inning after Vaughn singled to right field to bring home Alana Dyson from second. Colgate then added another run in the fifth inning to build a 2-0 lead.

Green Bay (10-8) scored both its runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning to tie the game 2-2 and force extra innings for the second straight time between the teams. Colgate quickly scored two runs in the top of the eighth off a double by Vaughn and a sac fly by Nicole Siedhof to claim its second straight win in extra innings.

Vaughn went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run scored, while Dyson finished 1-for-4 with two runs scored.

In game two, Ortega opened the game with her first career grand slam to give the Raiders an early 4-0 lead. Colgate would add another run in the fourth inning off a single by Alana Dyson to build a 5-0 lead. The Raiders would hold that lead until the sixth inning before the Penguins scored to make the score 5-1. Rachel LeCoq pitched the first six innings giving up five hits with one earned run and three strikeouts.

Youngstown State (15-7) scored five runs in the seventh inning to steal a win away from the Raiders. Lacy Ver Steeg started the inning in the circle for Colgate, but was replaced by LeCoq after giving up two hits, two runs and one strikeout. LeCoq would give up two hits and walk one before forcing a double play to end the inning. But the damage was done as the Penguins scored five runs off four hits and three Colgate errors to give LeCoq her third loss of the season.

Dyson went 2-for-3 with one RBI, while Vaughn and classmate Haley Fleming both went 3-for-4 with one run scored.

Colgate will be back in action on Saturday at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla. The Raiders will face St. Peter's at 9 a.m. followed by Rider at 11 a.m.
