Tera Vaughn drove in four runs as the Colgate Softball team split a pair of extra inning games Wednesday at the Rebel Spring Games. The Raiders topped Manhattan 6-5 in the first game, before falling to Green Bay 3-2 in the nightcap. Both games went 10 innings.
In the first game, Colgate (5-8) battled back from an early three-run deficit to win its second straight extra inning affair. Vaughn recorded four hits in the contest including the game-winning single in the bottom of the 10th inning to bring home
Alana Dyson from third.
Manhattan (3-6) scored two runs in the first inning and added another in the third to build an early 3-0 lead. The Raiders answered back with two runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth inning to take a 4-3 lead. The Jaspers then tied the game with a solo homerun by Jaci Rehey in the top of the seventh to take the game to extra innings.
Both teams scored a run in the eighth inning and then went down in order in the ninth inning before Vaughn's fourth hit of the contest brought home the winning run. Vaughn finished the game hitting 4-for-5 with four RBI, one run scored and one stolen base.
Courtney O'Connell started the game for Colgate before
Rachel LeCoq came in for relief and threw five innings allowing three hits, one earned run and four strikeouts.
In game two, LeCoq pitched the first four innings giving up three hits with one earned run and four strikeouts, while O'Connell came in relief to throw 5.2 innings with one earned run and six strikeouts.
Both Colgate and Green Bay (6-5) scored one run in the second inning, before going scoreless for the next seven. The Raiders crossed the plate in the top of the 10th inning off a two-out single by
Stephanie Hartquist to take a 2-1 lead. But the Phoenix answered back with a pair of runs in the bottom half, including the game winning hit with two outs by Danielle Peerenboom that scored Katie Cooney from third.
Colgate will be back in action on Friday at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla. The Raiders will face Green Bay at 1 p.m. followed by Youngstown State at 5 p.m.
