Men's Hoops Looks for Fifth-Straight Home Win Wednesday

The Colgate University men's basketball team will look to stay perfect at home and grab its sixth win of the season on Wednesday when it hosts Quinnipiac at 7:00 p.m. at Cotterell Court. The Raiders will then travel to New Hampshire for a New Year's Eve bash with the Wildcats. The game is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. at Lundholm Gym. Wednesday nights game against Quinnipiac will be streamed live online by GateTV on Colgate All-Access.

THE SERIES WITH QUINNIPIAC
This will be the third meeting between Colgate and Quinnipiac with the series tied 1-1. Colgate won the last meeting 80-71 in Hamilton during the 2006-07 season.

THE SERIES WITH NEW HAMPSHIRE
This will be the 32nd meeting between Colgate and New Hampshire with the Wildcats leading the all-time series 19-12. New Hampshire won last season 65-60 in Hamilton. The Raiders last win came during the 2007-08 season, 49-46, in Durham, N.H.

LAST TIME OUT
Senior Nick Pascale recorded his second double-double of the season, but it wasn't enough as the Colgate men's basketball team fell to Hofstra 82-59 Thursday night at the Mack Sports Complex.

Pascale finished the game with 13 points, 10 rebounds and one blocked shot, while classmate Sterling Melville scored a team-high 16 points in the loss. Yaw Gyawu scored eight points and grabbed six rebounds, while Mike Venezia pitched in six points, one blocked shot and a steal.

Hofstra (5-7) opened the game with an 17-7 run in the first five minutes of action, before the Raiders responded with an 11-4 run, including a three-pointer by Venezia, to trim the lead to 21-18 with 8:51 left. The Pride answered back with a 7-0 run to regain a 10-point lead 28-18 with 5:21 remaining, before Colgate ended the half with a 16-7 run to trim the lead to 35-34 as both teams entered their locker rooms.

SCOUTING QUINNIPIAC (6-5)
Ike Azotam registered a career-high 32 points to lead the Quinnipiac University men's basketball team past Niagara on Thursday (Dec. 22) at the TD Bank Sports Center. Azotam and the Bobcats held off a late charge from the visiting Purple Eagles en route to an 85-81 triumph and their fourth win at home this season.

James Johnson also fared well for the Bobcats, as the senior guard compiled 14 points, three assists and four rebounds. Young chimed in with eight points and seven boards, while Hearst and Evan Conti combined for five points.  Quinnipiac outshot the Purple Eagles, 46 percent to 43 percent, out-rebounded Niagara, 48-30, and controlled the paint, 44-30.

SCOUTING NEW HAMPSHIRE (4-5)
Sophomore Patrick Konan just missed notching his second career double-double, registering a season-high 17 points and nine rebounds, but the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team fell to Providence College, 67-52, on Tuesday evening at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.

Konan was named the America East Player of the Game for just the second time this season, as he rounded out the night with two assists in 32 minutes. He shot 7-of-17 from the floor and 3-of-8 from beyond the arc. Alvin Abreu added 13 points and one rebound. Brian Benson corralled nine boards, tallied three points and one block.

RAIDERS ENJOY HOME COOKING
Colgate is a perfect 4-0 at home this season, which is the best start for the Raiders since the 2000-01 season when they started 5-0. Colgate's best start at home came during the 1976-77 season when the Raiders started 9-0.

500-500-100
Colgate senior Nick Pascale is closing in on becoming just the fifth Raider in school history to score 500 or more points, grab 500 or more rebounds and block 100 or more shots in a career. Pascale currently has 472 points, 466 rebounds and 94 blocked shots.

1,000 POINTS AND COUNTING
Last season, senior forward Yaw Gyawu became the 28th player in school history to join the 1,000-point club. Gyawu currently has 1,165 points which ranks 20th, only seven points behind Jon Simon (1,172) for 19th overall.

VENEZIA KEEPS RAINING THREES
Colgate senior Mike Venezia has made a total of 161 three-pointers in his career which ranks seventh all-time in the Colgate record books. Former teammate Kyle Roemer '10 holds the school record (267), while director of basketball operations Mark Linebaugh '04 ranks fifth with 173. Venezia is also 160 points (840) away from becoming the 29th Raider to join the 1,000-point club.

SHOOT WITH THE RAIDERS
The Colgate University men's and women's basketball teams are inviting fans and friends to join them for the seventh annual “Shoot With The Raiders” event on Sunday, January 8 at 1:00 p.m. at Cotterell Court in the Reid Athletic Center.

The event, which is open to the public, will give fans the opportunity to meet and get autographs from their favorite players and coaches. There will also be a series of skill competitions and drills for participants which include shooting, basketball relay races, and more to name a few. Admission for the event is free.

UP NEXT
Colgate will host Columbia on Wednesday, Jan. 4. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. at Cotterell Court and will be streamed live on Colgate All-Access.
