HAMDEN, Conn. (11/18/11) - Despite holding a 2-1 lead late in the second period, the Colgate women's hockey team could not hold off Quinnipiac, eventually falling to the Bobcats 6-2 at the TD Bank Sports Center.
 
Sophomore Jocelyn Simpson and freshman Miriam Drubel scored a goal each for the Raiders while senior goaltender Kimberly Sass had 33 saves, 13 of which were in the first frame.
 
Quinnipiac opened the game attacking the Raiders' net, outshooting Colgate 7-1 in the first few minutes of play. After a slow start, the Raiders then picked up their offensive momentum, holding the shooting advantage until the ninth minute when a Colgate penalty resulted in an extra skater for the Bobcats. A second penalty on the Raiders then had them at a 5-on-3 disadvantage at one point, but they were able to hold Quinnipiac scoreless. Both teams continued to play an attacking game however, at the end of the first 20 minutes of play, the score remained 0-0.
 
The second period was fruitful for both teams. Quinnipiac got on the scoreboard first with a goal midway through the stanza to take a 1-0 lead. The Raiders then answered back with two goals in 24 seconds to claim a 2-1 lead. The first goal was tallied by Simpson with an assist from classmate Shannon Doyle during a power play at the 14:44 mark. Then, at the 15:08 mark, Drubel netted the second goal without help to give Colgate the lead. Determined to reclaim their advantage, the Bobcats then found a pair of goals, one of which was on the power play, in the final five minutes to put the score at 3-2 going into the third frame. 
 
Quinnipiac went on to score a trio of goals in the final 20 minutes of the game to win the matchup 6-2.
 
Colgate was 1-for-4 on the power play while the Bobcats went 2-for-6 on the extra skater advantage. Quinnipiac held a 39-27 shooting advantage. Victoria Vigilanti had 25 stops for the Bobcats.

The Raiders will resume play with a road matchup against ECAC Hockey opponent, Princeton, on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 4 p.m. in Princeton, N.J.
