BETHLEHEM, Pa. (10/1/11)
– The Colgate men's soccer team played to its second double overtime tie of the season, 0-0, against Lehigh on Saturday afternoon in its second Patriot League matchup.

Despite outshooting the Mountain Hawks 10-6 and generating the only two shots of the overtime periods, the team could not find a game-winner.

The game started off fairly even, with both teams taking some shots on net as they attempted to take control of the ball possession. The game continued to go back and forth, with Colgate (5-2-2, 0-1-1 PL) creating a few chances on net. However, after a slow first 45 minutes of play, the score remained 0-0 at half time.

The second have was very physical as both teams struggled to find a goal and take the lead. Lehigh struck first, but as the half continued it was the Raiders that held the shooting advantage once again. Colgate then had a final offensive surge, firing a series of shots in the final 90 minutes of play but it was not enough, resulting in their third overtime game of the season.

The two overtime periods were identical to regulation time, with both teams battling it out on the field in hopes of securing the win. However, even after an additional 20 minutes of play, it was not enough to determine a winner, ending the game with a 0-0 tie.

Junior goalkeeper Grant Reed had one save for the Raiders, while Lehigh's Ciaran Nugent had three stops.

“We really battled and played well defensively,” stated head coach Erik Ronning. “We had some good moments on the attack and created some good chances. Lehigh was a strong defensive team and was tough to break down. If we continue to defend well, I am confident that we will find a rhythm on the attack and start to score some goals. It will come.”

The team will resume play on Tuesday, Oct. 4 when it hosts Albany at 7 p.m. on Van Doren Field.
