HAMILTON, N.Y. (1/6/11) – The Colgate women's ice hockey team will resume ECAC Hockey play this weekend when it travels to Brown and Yale for two conference matchups. The team will first play the Bears on Friday, Jan. 7 at 7 p.m. in Providence, R.I. followed by the Bulldogs on Saturday, Jan. 8 at 4 p.m. in New Haven, Conn.
The Raiders are coming off a 4-4 tie with Syracuse on Tuesday (Jan. 4) in its final non-conference game of the season. Sophomores
Jenna Klynstra and
Brittany Phillips recorded three points each for Colgate (6-12-1, 3-5 ECAC). Klynstra had two goals and one assist, while Phillips had three assists. Freshman
Rachel Walsh and classmate
Jocelyn Simpson also registered one goal apiece, with Walsh also adding an assist for two points.
POINT LEADERS
Phillips continues to lead the team with 20 points from seven goals and a team-high 13 assists. She is followed by classmate Klynstra and senior
Jessi Waters. Klynstra has a team-high nine goals and 8 assists for 17 points while Waters has 11 points off one goal and 10 assists.
SERIES
Brown leads the all-time series with the Raiders 9-8-1. Colgate has won the last three meetings, most recently a 4-3 win over the Bears in Providence, R.I. The Raiders have a 3-5-1 record on the road against Brown.
Colgate leads the all-time series with the Bulldogs, owning a 9-6-3 record. The Raiders lost the last meeting 3-1 at Yale last season, giving them a 3-3-3 record on the road. Colgate's last win against the Bulldogs was a 3-0 shutout in the 2008-09 season.
SCOUTING BROWN
The Bears (2-9-2, 1-5-2 ECAC) are coming off a 4-0 loss to Boston University on Jan. 2. The team, which was picked to finish 11th in the ECAC preseason poll, has wins against Sacred Heart and Rensselaer and has suffered losses to Boston College, Dartmouth, Harvard, St. Lawrence, Providence, Northeastern, Quinnipiac and Princeton. Its ties were with Union and Clarkson.
Brown is led by sophomore Laurie Jolin, freshman Jessica Hoyle and sophomore Erica Farrer. Jolin leads the team with seven points from five goals and two assists while Hoyle and Farrer both have five points from two goals and three assists apiece.
SCOUTING YALE
The Bulldogs (4-9-2, 3-4-1 ECAC) are coming off a 3-1 loss to Boston College on Jan. 3 and will host Cornell on Friday before facing Colgate on Saturday. The team has wins over Union, Clarkson, Connecticut and Princeton, and suffered losses to Vermont, Harvard, Dartmouth, Providence, Northeastern, Rensselaer, St. Lawrence and Quinnipiac.
Yale, which was picked to finish 10th in the league's preseason poll, is led by Bray Ketchum and Jackie Raines. Ketchum has a team-high 11 points from five goals and six assists while Raines has eight points off six goals and two assists.
ECAC PRESEASON POLL
The Raiders were picked to finish ninth in the ECAC preseason poll that was released on Sept. 16. The defending regular-season and tournament champion Cornell, was picked to finish first with a total of 121 points and 11 first-place votes. Following the Big Red were Clarkson (105, one first-place vote), Harvard (103), Quinnipiac (79), St. Lawrence (77), and Princeton (73), with Rensselaer (70) and Dartmouth (52) rounding off the top eight spots. Colgate (43) along with Yale (34), Brown (24) and Union (11) were the four teams picked to miss out on this season's tournament.
