LEWISBURG, Pa.  (4/17/2010) – Bucknell scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth inning en route to a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Colgate in the first game of a Patriot League softball doubleheader, Saturday afternoon.  The Bison completed the sweep with a five-inning 13-3 win in the day's second game.

The Raiders, who fell to 20-14 overall and 3-7 in league play, got on the board early in the opener.  In the top of the first with one out, Alana Dyson (Grovetown, Ga.) reached on an error.  The freshman then advanced to second on a single by Stephanie Hartquist (Homer, N.Y.).  With runners on first and second, Jennifer Ortega (Aberdeen, N.J.) followed with a single up the middle to score Dyson from second.

After the Bison evened the game in the bottom of the sixth, Colgate regained the advantage with one run in the top of the eighth.  Once again, the Raiders benefitted from a Bison error as Melissa Babb-Renta (Glenview, Ill.) reached on a miscue by the second baseman.  The senior eventually scored from second on a two-out single to center by Ortega.

Elyse Colmenero tripled to lead off the bottom of the frame and Lauren Fry followed with a double to tie the game.  After a single and a hit by pitch loaded the bases, Alison Ford delivered a single to left center to end the game.

Courtney O'Connell (Palm Harbor, Fla.) surrendered nine hits and three earned runs in 7.1 innings of work.  The freshman, who fell to 4-3 overall, fanned four batters in the loss.

In the second game, the Bison scored four times in the fourth and added seven more in the fifth in the victory.

Trailing 2-0, the Raiders posted three runs in the top of the third.  Dyson tripled to left center to bring home Amanda Zranchev (Budd Lake, N.J.) and Babb-Renta.  Hartquist followed with a single through the left side to plate the final run.  With the hit, the sophomore successfully stretched her hitting streak to 21 games.

Fry drove in four runs, while Sherry Finkel knocked in three as Bucknell improved to 19-11 overall and 7-3 in league play.  Alex MacLean went the distance on a three-hitter to improve to 7-1.  Lacy Ver Steeg (Elk Grove, Calif.) suffered the loss and dropped to 0-2.

Colgate will attempt to snap a six-game winless skid Sunday as the two teams complete their four-game weekend.  The doubleheader starts at noon.
