HAMILTON, N.Y. (3/6/10)
– Colgate University junior Ben McCabe (Brunswick, Maine) scored four goals and freshman Peter Baum (Portland, Ore.) added three, but it wasn't enough as the Raiders fell to Hobart 12-9 Saturday afternoon.

After falling behind 6-1 in the opening period, the Raiders went on a 6-2 run to cut the lead to 8-7 with 1:32 remaining in the third quarter, but that was as close Colgate would come as the Statesmen scored four of the next six goals for a 12-9 victory.

Hobart scored the first four goals of the game before Baum stopped the bleeding off an assist from senior Ian Murphy (Constantia, N.Y.). Murphy also assisted on the Raiders second goal, feeding McCabe a shot from 10-meters out that he ripped past goalie Max Silberlicht.

After another Statesmen goal, the Riaders would go on a 3-0 run to end the half and trim the lead to 7-5. Sophomore Chris Zielinski (Lancaster, Pa.) would begin the run unassisted at the 6:12 mark and was followed by McCabe at 3:17 and Baum with 18 seconds remaining.

Hobart scored the first goal of the second half to extend its lead to 8-5, but the Raiders would respond with pair of goals, 30 seconds apart, to trim the lead to 8-7. Zielinski scored his second goal of the game with 6:59 remaining in the third quarter and was followed by McCabe's third of the game at the 6:29 mark. Both goals were assisted by freshman Connor Brown (Pleasantville, N.Y.), who used his speed to allude the initial defender and set up both his teammates.

The Statesmen scored the next two goals to rebuild a three-goal lead, then exchanged goals to leave with the victory.

Senior Tim Harrington (Lutherville, Md.) started the game for Colgate and made five saves in the loss, while sophomore Jared Madison (Lawrenceville, N.J.) tallied seven stops in the second half. Silberlicht saved 13 in the win for Hobart.

Colgate returns to action Saturday (March 13) as it begins Patriot League play at Holy Cross. The game set to begin at 12 p.m.
