ALBANY, N.Y. (3/27/2010) – Former Colgate hockey All-American Andy McDonald was named a second team ECAC Hockey all-decade selection, it was recently announced by the league office. The teams are made up of former student-athletes who played at their respective schools anywhere between 1999-2000 and 2008-09. A committee consisting of coaches, media members and league administrators selected the respective teams.
McDonald, a current member of the NHL's St. Louis Blues, starred for the Raiders from 1997 to 2000. During his career, he posted 67 goals, 88 assists for 155 points in 137 games. His point total currently ranks tied for 16th overall in Raider history. A two-time all-league honoree from Strathroy, Ontario, McDonald tallied his most productive season at Colgate in the 1999-2000 campaign, when he recorded 25 goals and 58 points and led the Raiders to a 24-9-2 record and a spot in the NCAA East Regional in Albany. His 58-pooint season tied for sixth on the all-time single-season list at Colgate. As a result of his play, he was named a first team all-league honoree, as well as a finalist for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award. McDonald also became Colgate's 13th All-American that season as well. As a junior, he was a second team all-league honoree following a 46-point season.
McDonald was joined at forward on the second team by Harvard's Dominic Moore (1999-2003) and Cornell's Matt Moulson (2002-06), while the three defensemen were St. Lawrence's Drew Bagnall (2003-07), Reid Cashman (2003-07) of Quinnipiac and Clarkson's Kent Huskins (1997-2001). The second team goalie was Cornell's David LeNeveu (2001-03).
The first team honorees were Jeff Hamilton (Yale), Lee Stempniak (Dartmouth), T.J. Trevelyan (St. Lawrence), Doug Murray (Cornell), Noah Welch (Harvard), and Yann Denis (Brown).
