WEST POINT, N.Y. (10/9/10)
– The No. 24 Colgate men's soccer team secured its sixth win of the season on Saturday night, when it defeated Army 1-0 on the road. The Raiders (6-2-3) are now 3-0 in Patriot League play.

In the first half, Colgate came out as the stronger team, controlling most of the play and creating several threatening opportunities but with no success. The Raiders' offense continued to pressure the Black Nights' defense throughout the half but as the game reached its halfway point, the score remained 0-0.

Colgate's momentum continued into the second half, with the team's offense  continually attacking the Black Knights' net aggressively. Despite outshooting Army 15-3, it wasn't until the closing minutes of the game that they found success when Patrick Letourneau (Bethlehem, Pa.) picked up a loose ball in front of the goal and shot it past the goalkeeper to score his first goal of the season and give the Raiders the win.

“We gutted out a quality win on the road against a very tough Army team,” stated head coach Erik Ronning. “We defended very well as a team, made a play, and did not give much away. Getting three points on the road is very important and I am very proud of the way we competed.

The Raiders will return to Van Doren Field next week when they host Cornell on Tuesday, Oct 12th at 7 p.m.
