Soccer Game Central
HAMILTON, N.Y. (10/7/10) – The No. 24 men's soccer team will travel to West Point, N.Y. on Saturday, Oct. 9 to face Army in its third Patriot league game of the season. The game is scheduled to take place at 7 p.m.
The Raiders (5-2-3) are 2-0 in league play with wins against Holy Cross and Lehigh, and are currently tied for first in the Patriot League standings. The team is coming off a 3-2 overtime loss to Syracuse on Wednesday night (Oct. 6).
Steven Miller (Ivyland, Pa.) and
Shane Conlin (Randolph, N.J.) were the goal scorers for the Raiders.
RANKINGS
Colgate landed the No. 24 spot in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) National poll on Tuesday (Oct. 5). The Raiders have received votes in the poll in previous weeks but this is the first time this season that it has landed a top-25 slot. The team is also ranked No. 1 in the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Region poll for the second week in a row.
RAIDERS' OFFENSE
The Raiders have a variety of players contributing to their scoring this season. Six Colgate players have scored at least one goal for the Raiders so far this season and four players have at least one goal and one assist.
Matt Schuber (Webster, N.Y.) leads the team in points (6) after dishing out an assist in the Syracuse game. He now has two goals and two assists in the season.
Mike Reidy (Webster, N.Y.) and
Steven Miller are tied at second with five points off two goals and one assist each.
Mike Reese (Wallingford, Pa) and
Jeff Leach (New Canaan, Conn.) have also scored one goal apiece for Colgate while Conlin has scored two.
DEFENDING THE NET
Junior goalkeeper
Chris Miller (Dallas, Texas) received an honorable mention from the Patriot League this week after securing his fourth shutout of the season last weekend. Miller is second in the league in goals against average (0.39) and is tied for first in shutouts (4).
SCOUTING ARMY
The Black Knights (1-8) are coming off a 2-0 loss to American last weekend, giving them a league record of 0-2 going into this weekend's competition. The team has also suffered losses to Marist, NJIT, Pittsburgh, Duquesne, Bryan, Central Florida and Patriot League foe, Navy. Army's only win this season was a 2-0 victory over Rider on Sept. 29 that broke its 22-game winless streak.
The team is led by junior forward Tanner Roberston and sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Currens. Roberston has four points off one goal and two assists while Cunners enters Saturday's game with a 1.40 goals against average and a .737 save percentage.
