HAMILTON, N.Y. (10/12/10)
- The Colgate men's soccer team suffered its third setback of the season on Tuesday night when it fell to Cornell 2-0 on Van Doren Field. Despite outshooting Cornell 17-3, the Raiders (6-3-3) were unable to secure the win.

The game started off with Cornell getting on the scoreboard in the 5th minute of the game from a deep throw in that was headed past the Raiders' goalkeeper to give the Big Red the early lead. As the game continued, Colgate began to control the game, holding majority of the ball possession and creating a few opportunities but with no real threats on goal. Then, in the closing minutes off the half, Cornell had its second break of the game and was once again able to capitalize, finding the back of the net off a scramble in front of the goal to take the 2-0 lead at half time.

In the second half, the Raiders continued to control the pace of the game, playing majority of the game in the Big Red's half. In response, Cornell began to play a more defensive game, adding an extra defender and pushing everyone behind the ball. The Raiders continued to attack the goal, finding a few close attempts, one of which hit the post in the closing minutes, but could not get past Cornell's solid defense, suffering their third loss of the season.

"As a group we lacked toughness in the first half and gave away two soft goals," stated head coach Erik Ronning. "Moving forward, we must learn from this experience and prepare for Lafayette."

The team will continue play on Saturday, Oct. 16 when it hosts Patriot League foe, Lafayette, on Van Doren Field at 7 p.m.
