BETHLEHEM, Pa. (9/26/09) - The Colgate men's soccer team dropped their conference opener at Lehigh 2-1 in overtime on Saturday night. With the loss the Raiders drop to 4-3-0, while the Mountain Hawks improve to 4-2-1.
Steady rainfall throughout the game proved difficult for both teams, as the two teams combined for just nine shots during the first half. However, both goals were also scored early in the first session.
Lehigh was first to score as freshman Austin Decker took a pass from defender Adam Welch to score the goal and give the Mountain Hawks a 1-0 lead at 13:25.
Colgate responded just over a minute later to tie it up at 1-1. Freshman
Mike Reidy (Webster, N.Y.) recorded his fourth goal of the season off a pass from classmate
Shane Conlin (Randolph, N.J.).
Despite being outshot 10-3 in the second half, the Raiders' defense was able to prevent the Mountain Hawks from scoring. Junior goalkeeper
Max Krasilovsky-Revell (Marlborough, Mass.) made six saves, including four in the second half, during his first career start for Colgate.
With the rain continuing to fall steadily heading into overtime, a routine play turned into a loss for the Raiders. Just over a minute into the extra session, a Colgate defender deflected a pass with a header, sending the ball into the Raiders goal just over the Colgate goalie's head and giving Lehigh the 2-1 victory.
The Raiders will travel to Amherst, Mass. this Tuesday, Sept. 29 to take on the University of Massachusetts Minutemen.
