DURHAM, N.H. (9/19/09) - Freshman
Mike Reidy (Webster, N.Y.) scored the lone goal for Colgate in a 2-1 loss to University of New Hampshire on Saturday evening at Bremner Field.
The Wildcats handed the Raiders just their second loss of the season, dropping Colgate to 4-2-0 overall, while New Hampshire improves to 2-3-1.
New Hampshire relied on a pair of first half goals, forcing the Raiders to play from behind. The Wildcats scored their first goal in the 16
th minute of play, after the Raider defense was unable to clear a pass back to goalkeeper
Chris Miller (Dallas, Texas). This opened up an opportunity for sophomore Sean Coleman to chase down a loose ball and knock it in around the right side of Miller.
Senior
Alex Weekes (Stroudsburg, Pa.) almost tied the game at one all as he fired a direct shot from inside the box, forcing New Hampshire's Colin O'Donnell to dive in order to make the save.
The Wildcats retaliated by scoring again just before the close of the opening half as senior Joe Annese faked out a diving Miller, putting the ball in on the far left side of the net.
Colgate came out on the attack and ready to score in the second half. Less than 20 minutes into the half,
Mike Reidy set up a hard shot from 30 yards out that dropped just inside the crossbar and over New Hampshire's Colin O'Donnell, cutting the Wildcats advantage to 2-1. The Raiders however, were unable to tie it up in the final minutes of play, as the Wildcats held Colgate at bay for the victory.
The Colgate men will be back in action next Friday, Sept. 26th when they open conference play against Lehigh at 7 p.m. in Bethlehem, Pa.
