HAMILTON, N.Y. (5/6/09) – Colgate head softball coach Vickie Sax has been named the Patriot League Coach of the Year for the third time in her career. She previously won the honor in 2003 and 2007.
Sax guided the Raiders to a second place finish in the Patriot League standings, and has her team in the Patriot League Tournament for the 11th time in 12 seasons. Colgate was picked to finish fourth in the preseason coaches poll.
In her 12th season overall, Sax has posted a record of 286-260-1, including three Patriot League championships and three NCAA Tournament appearances.
Colgate (25-16) opens Patriot League Tournament play on Thursday, May 7 against third-seeded Bucknell at 4 p.m. at Lehigh University's Kaufman Field. The winner of the Patriot League Tournament receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
