WEST POINT, N.Y. (4/18/09) – The Colgate softball team (22-11, PL 10-4) saw its 10-game winning stopped in the opener of a Patriot League doubleheader Saturday afternoon against Army, 2-1, before coming back in the nightcap for a 7-4 win.
In the opener, Army's Shawna Bleyl pitched a four-hitter to snap Colgate's winning streak, allowing one run, while walking one and striking out three.
The Cadets took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, when Alexis AuBuchon hit a two-run homer over the left centerfield fence with Clara Navarro on base after leading off with a walk.
Colgate scored its only run in the fifth inning. Meg Mylan (Upper Montclair, NJ) walked with two outs, and moved to third on a single by Melissa Babb-Renta (Glenview, IL). Mylan scored on a RBI single to centerfield by freshman Jennifer Ortega (Aberdeen, NJ).
Junior Jesse McCarrick (Oak Hill, VA) had her five-game winning streak in the circle stopped by the Cadets. McCarrick (10-3) allowed five hits, two runs, walked four and struck out three for the Raiders.
In the nightcap, freshman Michelle Hollebeke (North Reading, MA) pitched no-hit ball into the fifth inning. With one out, Erin McClain broke up the no-hitter with a single to centerfield. Hollebeke (7-4) allowed seven hits, four runs, walked none and struck out one.
Colgate took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on Ashley Rowe's (Tampa, FL) RBI double, scoring Calla Yee (Salinas, CA), who had singled.
The Raiders increased their lead to 5-0 in the second inning scoring four times. Babb-Renta had a RBI single, followed by a sacrifice fly off the bat of Ortega, an Army fielding error, and Tiana Tyeskey's (Granite Bay, CA) RBI triple.
Colgate scored again in fourth inning on another sacrifice fly by Ortega, and in the fifth inning on Amanda Eccleston's (Roseville, CA) single.
Army scored once in the fifth, before pushing across three runs in the seventh inning.
Tyeskey and Rowe had two hits apiece for the Raiders.
