Corp Named a Finalist For 2009 Tewaaraton Trophy

Brandon Corp is the leading scorer in the nation averaging 4.42 points per game.
HAMILTON, N.Y. (4/15/09)— Colgate University senior attacker Brandon Corp (Chittenango, N.Y.) has been named as a finalist for the 2009 Tewaaraton Trophy, which is awarded annually to the top male and female player in collegiate lacrosse. Corp is one of 21 finalists for the award. He is the first Colgate player to be nominated for the honor. The winner will be announced May 28.

The players on the initial Tewaaraton Watch List were nominated by coaches across all three divisions. The list was pared down to 21 finalists this week. The Tewaaraton Award Foundation, in conjunction with The University Club of Washington, D.C., formally established the "Tewaaraton Trophy" on August 29, 2000. Today, the Tewaaraton Trophy is recognized as the pre-eminent lacrosse award honoring the top female and male varsity collegiate lacrosse player in the United States.

Corp currently leads the nation in points with 53. He ranks in the top three in the Patriot League in goals (30) and assists (23). Corp has served as a co-captain for the No. 13/13 Raiders. He has helped guide Colgate to a 5-0 Patriot League record heading into the final weekend of League play.

Corp entered the season having collected numerous honors through his previous three seasons in Hamilton. As a junior he earned third team All-American honors and was selected by the League's coaches as the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year. Corp led all Patriot League players with 56 points off of 41 goals and 15 assists in 2008. He is a three-time All-Patriot League selection, earning First-Team recognition the last two seasons and Second-Team honors as a rookie.

Corp was named a preseason All-American and to the All-Patriot League team by Inside Lacrosse Faceoff Yearbook. The Patriot League coaches once again selected him as the conference's Preseason Offensive Player of the Year.

Colgate will battle co-League-leader Bucknell on Saturday, April 18 for first place and the right to host the Patriot League Tournament. The game is slated to begin at 1 p.m. and can be seen live on Time Warner Sports, local channel 26.
