St. Pierre Signs Amateur Tryout Agreement With Crunch

Nick St. Pierre Signed a Tryout Agreement with the Syracuse Crunch

HAMILTON, N.Y.  (3/11/09) – Two days after his collegiate career ended in a deciding third game at Quinnipiac, Colgate's Nick St. Pierre (St. Etienne, Que.) signed an amateur tryout agreement with the American Hockey League's Syracuse Crunch, it was announced Tuesday.

St. Pierre, who hopped on the ice for the first time with his new teammates Tuesday, completed his collegiate career with 14 goals and 48 assists in 147 games at Colgate.  His games played ranks sixth on the all-time Raider list.  As a senior, St. Pierre posted four goals and 13 assists for Don Vaughan's squad and helped rally the Raiders back from a two-goal deficit in the final three minutes of an elimination game en route to a thrilling 5-4 overtime win at Quinnipiac, Saturday evening.  He became only the second player in Colgate's storied hockey history to serve as either a team captain or an assistant captain three consecutive years.

“This is a reflection of the way he played this season,” said Vaughan. “Nick is getting a chance to test the waters with this opportunity and it will be a great experience for him.

“It works in this situation because he not only can continue to play hockey and get some experience, but he can also continue his class work at Colgate,” continued Vaughan.

St. Pierre plans to commute between Hamilton and Syracuse so he can finish his degree in Economics.

It hasn't been determined when he will see his first action with the Crunch.
