WASHINGTON, D.C. (11/7/09) -   Senior Alex Weekes (Stroudsburg, Pa.) tallied his seventh goal of the season Colgate shutout Patriot League foe American University 1-0 Saturday afternoon at Reeves Field.  With the win, the Raiders close out the regular season with a 8-8-1 overall mark and 4-3-0 conference record.  The Eagles finish with a 9-6-2 record overall and 4-2-1 mark in the league. 

 

After a scoreless first half, the Raiders came out of the break looking to score the first goal of the match. Colgate freshman Mike Garzi (New Milford, Conn.) fed a pass down the field to Weekes who was able to get behind the Eagles' defensemen.  Weekes then went one-on-one with goalkeeper Matt Makowski, beating the sophomore keeper to score the game-winning goal in the 58th minute of play.  

 

Down by a goal, American intensified their attack in the second half getting off eight shots, three of which were on goal. Colgate's goalie Chris Miller (Dallas, Texas) held off the Eagles making four saves in the game, three of which came in the second half.
