McPherson Paces Colgate To Victory Over Brown

Corbin McPherson netted his first collegiate goal in the victory over Brown

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (11/13/09) – Corbin McPherson (Folsom, Calif.) posted his first multi-point game of his collegiate career, including scoring the eventual game winning goal as Colgate downed Brown 5-3 in an ECAC Hockey clash, Friday evening at Meehan Auditorium.

With the victory, Colgate, which moved to 5-2-3 overall and 3-0 in league play, posted its first victory against the bears in Providence since a 5-0 win on November 4, 2005. It marks the first time since the 2005-06 season the Raiders have opened the ECAC Hockey slate with a 3-0 mark.

The Raiders scored the game's first five goals. Colgate cashed in twice within a span of 80 seconds in the opening period. Jason Williams (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) netted his second of the year from Ethan Cox (Richmond, B.C.) at 7:55. With Harry Zolnierczyk in the box for tripping, the Raiders tallied their lone power play goal of the evening in eight tries as Robbie Bourdon (Ile Bizard, Que.) scored at 9:15 from McPherson and Kevin McNamara (Chestnut Hill, Mass.).

After a scoreless second period, goals started coming at a rapid pace as the Raiders planted three in the first 3:09 of the period. Brian Day (Danvers, Mass.) and David McIntyre (Pefferlaw, Ont.) teamed with Austin Smith (Dallas, Texas) at 1:32 of the period. For Smith, it was his seventh goal of the young season. Moments later, Brown's starting net minder, Mike Clemente, was chased from the game as McPherson tallied his first collegiate goal from McIntyre and Christian Long (Cleveland Heights, Ohio) at 2:28. The Raiders tallied their last score of the evening at 3:09 as Smith fed Day for his sixth of the campaign.

Down 5-0, Brown, which fell to 0-3-1 overall, made things rather interesting with three goals in less than four minutes. Jordan Pietrus netted two of the scores at 5:40 and 9:02 to pull the Bears within two.

Charles Long (Cleveland Heights, Ohio) saved 29 of 32 shots improved to 4-1-1 on the season. Clemente saved 20 before being replaced by Dan Rosen at 3:09 of the third. Rosen saved 10 in the final 16:51.

Colgate returns to action Saturday evening as it travels to face #11, Yale. Opening face-off at Ingalls is set for 7 p.m.
