HAMILTON, N.Y. (10/31/09)
Austin Smith (Dallas, Texas) posted a three-point evening and David McIntyre (Pefferlaw, Ont.) added two assists as Colgate posted a come-from-behind 4-2 victory over visiting Niagara, Saturday evening at Starr Rink.

Colgate, now 2-2-3 on the year, trailed twice in the game at 1-0 and 2-1.  The Raiders scored three unanswered goals en route to posting their first two-goal win since a 3-1 victory at Clarkson, January 30, 2009.

Trailing 2-1, Nick Prockow (Montreal, Que.) snapped a wrist shot from inside the left circle to the top left corner for his second of the campaign from Smith and Corbin McPherson (Folsom, Calif.) at 14:28 of the second.  The game went to the second intermission knotted at 2-2.

Colgate dominated the third, out shooting Niagara 17-8 in the final period. The Raiders took the lead for good at 6:50 of the third as Brian Day (Danvers, Mass.) and McIntyre teamed with Smith for the game-winner.  Day won the face off from the right side and slid the puck to McIntyre.  The junior found Smith in the slot for a one-timer low towards the left post.

Colgate tacked on a power play goal at 15:47 as Francois Brisebois (Montreal, Que.) cashed in for his third of the season. The junior brought the puck up the length of the ice and then dished it off to Kurtis Bartliff (Clinton, Ont.).  After the freshman took the initial shot, Brisebois banked home the rebound from in front of the net.

Niagara opened the scoring with 29 seconds left in the opening period as Marc Zanette stole the puck in Colgate's defensive zone; broke in on goalie Charles Long (Cleveland, Ohio). After being stuff on the initial shut, the freshman backhanded the puck into the cage for a short-handed score.

Colgate got on the board at 7:39 of the second as Smith posted the first of the night from McIntyre and Kevin McNamara (Chestnut Hill, Mass.).  However, The Purple Eagles regained the lead at 2-1 less than four minutes later as Paul Zanette skated in on a breakaway and beat Long to the right.

The Raiders out-shot Niagara 32-20 on the evening. Long improved his record to 1-1-1 with an 18-save performance, while Andrew Hare tallied 28 stops in the loss for the Purple Eagles.

Colgate's penalty kill stopped all four Niagara man advantages, while converting one of three.

The Raiders return to action Friday evening as they open ECAC Hockey play versus Harvard. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Starr Rink.
