Men's Soccer Falls at Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. (10/3/09) -   The Colgate men's soccer team dropped a conference match-up, 2-0, to Patriot League rival Holy Cross on Saturday afternoon at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium in Worcester, Mass.

The Crusaders relied on an early offensive attack, gaining two quick goals within the first five minutes of play and forcing the Raiders to tighten up the defense while trying to pressure the Crusader's on their own end of the field.

Freshman Shane Reagan scored just two minutes into the game after Jordan Michael sent a cross from the right side to set up the shot on goal. Michael, a sophomore, then earned his first goal of the season two minutes later at 4:44 in the first half.

Junior captain Kyle Miller sent a hard shot at the goal, but Colgate's Chris Miller (Dallas, Texas) was able to knock it out of the goal.  Michael was able to grab the rebound and put it in past a recovering Miller.

The Raiders, who outshot Holy Cross 18-7 overall and 8-1 in the second half, got off several great shots on goal in the second half, including two back-to-back shots from senior Alex Weekes (Stroudsburg, Pa.) and freshman Mike Reidy (Webster, N.Y.). Crusaders' goalie Thomas Booth saved both shots to keep the Raiders off the board.

Weekes led Colgate in shooting with nine shots, including four on goal. Miller made two saves as he made his return between the posts after missing two games.

The Raiders, now 0-2 in the conference, return home this week after battling through four consecutive road games.  Colgate will host nearby Hartwick on Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m., followed by Patriot League opponent Army on Saturday, Oct. 13.
