HAMILTON, N.Y. (10/3/09)  – Robbie Bourdon (Ile Bizard, Que.) scored two goals to pace the Colgate men's hockey squad to a 6-3 exhibition victory over the University of Waterloo, Saturday evening at Starr Rink.

The Raiders, who open the 2009-2010 campaign Friday evening at Niagara, also received three-point performances from Austin Smith (Dallas, Texas), David McIntyre (Pefferlaw, Ont.) and Ethan Cox (Richmond, B.C.).  Smith and McIntyre each scored a goal and dished out two assists, while Cox chipped in with three assists in the victory over the Warriors.

Trailing 1-0, Colgate got on the board at 11:38 of the opening period as Smith connected on the power play from McIntyre and Cox.  The Raiders went into intermission with a 2-1 advantage following a goal from freshman Kurtis Bartliff (Clinton, Ont.) at 17:53 from McIntyre and Smith.

Bourdon got the first of his two goals just 39 seconds into the second period as the freshman redirected a blast from Jeremy Price (Milton, Ont.) into the cage.  Cox was credited with a secondary assist.  After Waterloo shaved the deficit to 3-2, the Raiders answered with two power play goals in a 23-second span.  Bourdon cashed in on a two man advantage from Francois Brisebois (Montreal , Que.) and Jason Williams (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) at 6:32 before McIntyre knocked a puck out of the air in behind Keaton Hartigan at 6:55.  Colgate went into the locker room with a 5-2 lead following the second period.

Waterloo drew first blood in the final period at 10:38 with an even strength goal from Kirt Hill which barely crossed the goal line.   The Raiders closed scoring with 3:08 left in regulation as Cox found Wade Poplawski (Winnipeg, Man.) and the junior buried the puck into the cage behind John Zelenbaba.

Colgate used all three goalies in the victory.  Bryan Bessette (Melrose, N.Y.) started the game and saves five shots in the opening period before Alex Evin (Castlegar, B.C.) turned aside seven shots in the second.  Senior Charles Long (Cleveland Heights, Ohio) made 12 saves in the final 20 minutes of action.  Hartigan saved 26 shots in 40 minutes of action for the Warriors before Zelenbaba finished the game with 10 stops in the final 20 minutes.  Colgate outshot Waterloo 42-27.
