Varsity Quad Grabs First Place Finish at Dad Vail Regatta

Three boats competed at the Regatta, all competed in the Grand Final

CAMDEN, N.J. – The men's rowing squad had three boats compete in the Dad Vail Regatta on the Cooper River. The Varsity Quad finished in first place in the Grand Final as the Varsity Eight and Second Varsity Four competed in the Grand Final.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Time Trials
The first boat to compete was the 2V4+, as the Raiders finished fourth out of 12 opponents in the opening race. Drexel finished first with a time of 6:26.155, followed by Stetson (6:38.511), Mercyhurst (6:39.795) and Colgate (6:43.367). The Raiders finished ahead of La Salle, Marietta, MIT, Loyola, Fairfield, Lafayette, Carnegie Mellon and Temple.

The 1V8+ was next, finishing fourth in its opening race against 19 other boats. Temple (5:22.729), Drexel (5:24.557) and La Salle (5:29.404) finished ahead of Colgate, as the Raiders clocked a time of 5:33.489. The Raiders also finished ahead of Marist, St. Joe's, Jacksonville, MIT and Santa Clara to secure a top-four finish.

The Men's Varsity 4x opened competition against five opponents, with the quad placing second in its first race. Trent earned the win with a time of 6:16.815, followed by Colgate at 6:27.907. Oklahoma City placed third, just behind the Raiders, with a time of 6:28.187. Clarkson, Dominican and Gordon rounded out the field.

The 2V4+ and 1V8+ advanced to the semifinal races later in the afternoon, while the 1V4+ advanced to the Grand Final.

Semi Finals
The 2V4+ opened the afternoon racing for the Raiders. In a five-boat field, Colgate finished second to secure a berth in the Grand Final. Drexel claimed first place with a time of 6:49.150, while Colgate followed nearly five seconds later at 6:54.280. La Salle placed third in 7:07.830, followed by Loyola (7:24.750) and Fairfield (7:39.580).

The 1V8+ earned a third-place finish and a spot in the Grand Final. In a close race among the top four boats, Temple crossed the line first with a time of 5:38.940, followed by MIT at 5:41.780. Colgate finished just one second later in 5:42.740, while Marist followed at 5:44.030. Santa Clara placed fifth, and San Diego rounded out the field.

Grand Finals
The 2V4+ opened the day with a 9 a.m. race. The Raiders finished fourth, one spot shy of a podium finish. Drexel claimed first place in 6:46.630, while Stetson (6:50.020) and Mercyhurst (6:52.460) secured the other podium spots. Colgate crossed the line in 7:02.680, ahead of La Salle (7:08.620) and Marietta (7:15.120).

The 1V8+ finished fifth out of six teams in the final. Drexel, Temple and La Salle claimed the top three spots, while MIT placed fourth in 5:48.470, roughly two seconds ahead of the Raiders' time of 5:50.230. Gonzaga finished sixth in 5:52.320.

The Men's Varsity Quad concluded the regatta with the Raiders' lone podium finish, capturing the gold medal. Colgate crossed the line in 6:20.100, defeating the next closest opponent by seven seconds. Oklahoma City placed second in 6:27.130, while Trent finished third in 6:28.400. Dominican, Clarkson and Gordon rounded out the race.

UP NEXT
The Raiders are slated to compete in one final race during the 2025-26 season. The team will travel to Sacramento to compete in the IRA National Championship from Friday, May 29, through Sunday, May 31.
