EASTON, Pa. – Behind an early offensive explosion and a dominant complete-game performance from
Kelcie McGraw, Colgate Softball opened its weekend series with a 6-2 victory over Lafayette on Friday afternoon at Metzgar Fields Complex.
COACH LAMISON-MYERS' COMMENTS
"I was really happy with the way we started the game. Attacked good pitches early. I wish we would have adjusted better in the back half but we did enough.
Kelcie McGraw settled in nicely and really put together a great game."
Record-Breaking Raiders
The afternoon was headlined by a pair of milestones as the Raiders continue to rewrite the program record books:
- Nora Megenity became the program's new single-season total bases record holder, reaching 133 and counting.
- Marina Taveras set a new first-year total bases record (98) with a first-inning single.
Long Ball Early Lead
Colgate's offensive output came via the home run in the first two frames. Megenity ignited the scoring immediately with a lead-off solo shot to right field. Four batters later,
Kayla Martin extended the lead with a two-run blast. Megenity struck again in the second inning, tattooing a three-run blast to score
Sydney Berg and
Mia Cascio and stake the Raiders a 6-0 lead.
McGraw Shines in the Circle
McGraw was spectacular in the circle. She tossed a complete-game gem, stifling the Leopards' offense for seven innings. She struck out nine while scattering seven hits and two unearned runs over seven innings of work. After Lafayette scored twice in the bottom of the seventh, McGraw sealed the victory with her ninth K of the afternoon.
