Raiders Clinch Playoff Berth with Sweep at Lafayette

Colgate beats Lafayette, 1-0 and 5-3, to complete weekend sweep

EASTON, Pa. – Colgate Softball broke four single-season records en route to clinching a Patriot League tournament berth with 1-0 and 5-3 victories over Lafayette in a doubleheader sweep Sunday afternoon at Metzgar Fields Complex.

Records Broken
COACH LAMISON-MYERS' COMMENTS

"I couldn't be more proud of the way the team fought this weekend. It was a tough three-game series for our offense and both Kelcie and Maya stepped up big time for the team. We are excited to get back into the postseason but we know the work isn't done yet."

Game 1 | Colgate 1, Lafayette 0

Colgate's Marina Taveras provided the only run needed in the opener. She hammered a solo homer in the top of the fourth and that was plenty for Maya Servedio, who tossed six innings of shutout ball to win the pitchers' duel against her counterpart, Marisa Powell.

Serveido struck out nine and scattered just two hits over six innings to pick up her fifth win of the season, improving to 5-2 overall. Kelcie McGraw pitched the seventh and induced a slick game-ending double-play to secure her third save of the season.

With the tying run on first base in the bottom of the seventh, Tealla Rivera took a ground ball, touched first, and quickly fired to Analisa Raffaeli who tagged out the runner sliding into second to lock up the shutout.

Taveras had two hits to lead the offense. Lily Haluska and Sydney Berg each had one knock as Colgate finished with four hits in the victory.

Game 2 | Colgate 5, Lafayette 3

All four of Colgate's single-season records were broken in Game 2. Nora Megenity started 2-for-2 to eclipse the single-season hits record, and Haluska's RBI single that leveled the score 1-1 in the third gave her a program-best 49 RBIs on the year.

A sacrifice fly by Raffaelli put the Raiders in front, 2-1, before Colgate strung four straight hits together in the seventh. Taveras drove in Alexa Acker with an RBI single, becoming the program's single-season leader for RBIs by a first-year (39), and scored one batter later on an RBI knock by Haluska to set a new program pace for runs scored by a first-year (43).

Kayla Martin capped Colgate's scoring with an RBI single, scoring Haluska, to stretch the lead to 5-1. Lafayette scored twice in the bottom of the seventh, but McGraw stranded the tying run on base with a game-ending strikeout to seal the 5-3 victory.

UP NEXT
Colgate (24-24, 10-5 PL) will play two games at Le Moyne on Wednesday (2/4 p.m.) before closing out the regular season with a three-game series against Bucknell next weekend. The Raiders will celebrate their two seniors, Servedio and Acker, prior to first pitch on Saturday's doubleheader at Eaton Street Complex.
