Colgate Falls to 2 Seed Navy 4-0 in Quarterfinals of Patriot League Tournament

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Colgate women's tennis team fell 4-0 to Navy on Friday in the quarterfinals of the Patriot League tournament, which took place at Bucknell. The squad ended the season with seven wins in head coach Damien Prohaska's first year in charge.

"Navy came prepared and played a very complete match today," said head coach Damien Prohaska. "We lacked a bit of that bite that we had from our previous doubles performance and didn't take opportunities when presented. Singles, I thought we had a good compete level, but it's just too tough to play from behind against a lineup with such depth.

"Reflecting on our season, I think we're all proud of how we navigated a difficult spring schedule with so much time on the road and how we performed as a whole. A special thank you to our senior captains, Amelia and Sasha, who kept us motivated and moving through the season as a cohesive unit. Proud of this group and the growth we displayed this year. This program is on an exciting trajectory and I look forward to what's ahead.

Navy started off the match strong, taking court two doubles 6-1 over the duo of senior captain Sasha Herman and junior Carina Cristobal. Navy would then finish off the point with a 6-4 win over sophomore Rebecca Hess and junior Avery Isaac.

The Mids would continue their momentum in the back part of the singles lineup, defeating Herman 6-1, 6-1 at line five, and first-year Caroline Brown 6-3, 6-0 at line six. They would win the match after a 6-2, 6-0 win over senior captain Amelia Galin, who celebrated her 50th career singles win the previous weekend. Junior Sophia Montero was down 1-6, 4-5 when play was called at line two, as well as Hess 3-6, 2-3 at line three. The only set for the Raiders on the day came from sophomore Anya Kunar, who was up 6-4, 3-5 at line four.

The squad will look to improve in year two under Prohaska, where they will add three new incoming recruits for the 26-27 season. They also say goodbye to their senior captains Galin and Herman, who were both mainstays in the singles and doubles lineup this season.
