Taveras Named Patriot Rookie of the Week

First-year slashed .474 with two more homers in Florida

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Colgate Softball's Marina Taveras has been named Patriot League Rookie of the Week after a dominant stretch at the plate during the team's most recent trip to Florida.

Taveras led the Raiders with a .474 batting average (9-for-19) across five games, tallying two doubles, two home runs, four RBIs, and six runs scored. The first-year recorded at least one hit in all five contests, showcasing both consistency and power in the middle of Colgate's lineup.


Taveras went 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs, and three runs scored to power the Raiders past UIC 16-9 on Sunday. She also went 2-for-3 with a run scored against Illinois State and added another home run in a strong showing versus Monmouth.


Taveras' production helped Colgate post a 2-3 record on the week, highlighted by wins over Bowling Green and UIC. She paced an offense that slashed .270 as a team, combining for 38 hits, nine doubles, and 11 home runs during the five-game stretch.


The first-year standout is averaging .339 on the season with a 1.123 OPS. She is tied for the team lead in home runs (6) and second on the team in hits (21) and RBIs (16). This marks the second Patriot League Rookie of the Week honor for the Fort Worth, Texas, native.
