TAMPA, Fla. – Colgate Softball stranded early chances and South Florida pulled away for a 6-0 win Sunday in the USF Invitational finale.
Nora Megenity opened the game with a double and the Raiders loaded the bases with one out, but South Florida's McKenna Schroding escaped with two lineouts to keep it scoreless. The Bulls answered in the bottom half with a two-run homer from Alex Wilkes and never looked back.
Schroding tossed four scoreless innings before Carley Ernst closed out the final three. Colgate put a runner in scoring position four times, including a Kayla Martin double in the sixth, but couldn't break through.
After reaching base in each of the first six innings, the Raiders went down in order in the seventh to seal the 6-0 final.
Megenity (two hits), Martin, and Mia Cascio accounted for Colgate's four hits. Kelcie McGraw took the loss, allowing three runs (two earned) with two strikeouts over 3 2/3 innings.
