SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Colgate women's tennis team dropped their conference opener to Boston University, the reigning Patriot League champions. Sophomore
Rebecca Hess continued her strong start to the campaign, as she won the first set 7-6 (5) before the match was clinched.
"Good teams execute on their opportunities at a high rate, and BU is toward the top of the league for this reason," said head coach
Damien Prohaska. "They also reset points well, make you earn everything. Our focus this past week was to start stronger, stay patient, and build our points in the first three games, especially in singles. We practiced this well today, came out with great energy and fought hard. We're building in a good direction together and we're ready for a big weekend of matches against Siena and Niagara."
The Raiders dropped a tightly contested doubles point, losing lines one and three by only one break each. Senior captain
Sasha Herman and junior
Carina Cristobal were down 3-5 when the point was clinched.
The Terriers continued their success on the singles court, as their lines one, four, and five were able to pick up straight set victories over Colgate. Hess was up 7-6 (5), 1-0 at line three, and junior Sophia Montero and first-year Caroline Brown each lost their first sets 6-4 at lines two and six, respectively before play was stopped.Â
The Raiders return to action next Saturday, where they will head to Loudonville to take on Siena at 6:15 p.m. Â
