Down 1-3, Colgate storms back to defeat Wagner 4-3

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Colgate women's tennis team, faced with a 1-3 deficit, stormed back to defeat Wagner on Friday. The win moved the squad to 2-4 on the season.

"Down a doubles point and later down 1-3, this group had no panic and really stuck together," said Head Coach Damien Prohaska. "We are confident in our depth as a team and that confidence really shined today. Wagner battled us tough but we stayed composed through all of the ups and downs. Made for a fun environment and I'm just super proud of this group and the level of resiliency they showed today. Everyone contributed to this win and the energy was phenomenal. A big boost for us as we head into Villanova tomorrow."

Action began with doubles, where Wagner would emerge victorious in a tight point. Senior captain Sasha Herman and junior Carina Cristobal were able to win 6-3 at line two, but the Seahawks would prevail at the other two spots.

Wagner added onto their lead with a 6-2, 7-5 win over junior Sophia Montero, but sophomore Rebecca Hess was able to snag a point back with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph at line three. Senior captain Amelia Galin fell 6-1, 1-6, 4-6 at line one for the Seahawks to take a 3-1 lead. The Raiders showed no quit, with sophomore Anya Kunar taking a 7-5, 6-0 triumph at line four, followed by first-year Caroline Brown 6-4, 6-0 at line six. That left the match all down to Herman at line five, who would prevail 6-4, 6-3 to clinch the match for the Raiders.

The Raiders return to action on Saturday at 6 p.m. where they will travel to Villanova to take on the Wildcats.
